Yesterday, the 1st of January, 2016, was a buzzing night at the Landmark Events Centre, Oniru, Lagos, Nigeria. The 10th edition of The Headies was going down, the red carpet was hosted by the legendary musician, Sound Sultan, Hiptv trending's host, Nancy Isime and probably a presenter, Femi. The award ceremony started by 11.30pm with ace comedian, Bovi and the popular 'dance queen', Kaffy being the hosts. It was a great day until the script was flipped towards the end of the ceremony, the theme being 'Flip the Script'. A lot of unimaginable winners emerged making it suspense filled, having a look at the nominees list will give you an idea.
The YBNL boss, Olamide as well as Timi Dakolo bagged three awards each; best streethop artiste, album of the year, artiste of the year and recording of the year, best male vocal performance, best RnB single respectively. Two awards went to Wizkid who was absent as well as Vector; Song of the year, Best Pop/RnB album and best rap single and lyricist on the roll respectively. Yemi Alade- Hip hop world revelation, Cynthia Morgan- Best reggae/dancehall single, Aramide- Best female vocal erformance, M.I- Best rap album, Reminisce- Best collaboration, Adekunle Gold- Best alternative song, Joe El- Best conscious music, Korede Bello- Best pop single, all won an award each. The newcomer, Ycee won the Rookie of the year and Reekado Banks won the Next Rated. Unlimited LA won the Best director and Legendury Beatz won the Best producer. 2baba was welcomed into the Hall of Fame, Special recognition award was given to Don Jazzy and African artiste of the year went to Diamond Platinumz. The night didn't end well due to some reasons but it was all fun. Congratulations to all winners. Happy New Year!!!
